Tenderspirits-Web-Mall:  Teen or Junior Clothing Stores

Author:  Tenderspirit

Teen or Junior clothing stores were a big trend in the early eighties and included fairly inexpensive stores such as 5.7.9. and The Buckle. Those stores have since gone out of business and have made way for Wet Seal, Hollister and Charlotte Russe. In general, teen or juniors clothing stores contain clothing that are not made very well, extremely trendy and priced low. However, stores like Hollister and Abercrombie (owned by the same parent company) are paving the way for more classic clothing, made better and much more expensive. While a pair of jeans at a juniors clothing store like Wet Seal will sell for around $30.00, a pair of jeans at Hollister will sell for around $45.00. Abercrombie wants to cater more to the college crowd, but is always infiltrated by high schoolers, who are the target for teen or junior clothing stores. Abercrombie jeans average about $65.00 a pair.

You can always tell which stores are teen or junior clothing stores from about three hundred feet away. They are continually the stores with the teenage girls hanging around the front entrance, and the mannequins are all wearing skimpy clothes including tiny little shirts and short skirts. The teen or junior clothing stores are the stores that the late twenty year olds walk by and suddenly feel like they are much much older than they actually are.

Teen or juniors clothing is usually cut on a smaller scale as they are specifically made for pre-teenagers, teens,  and women that do not have the larger body proportion and larger hips that come with age. It is usually the case that once a woman reaches about the age of 22, teen or junior clothing stores are pretty much out of the question! Since these stores tend to have a smaller cut of clothing there are also teen or junior clothing stores specifically for the larger set girls, including Torrid, which carries approximately sizes 14 and above. Stores like Lane Bryant also have some trendier sections that are meant for those looking for a junior’s store.

Not only are there specialty junior clothing stores, there are sections within large department stores and retailers such as Dullards, Macys, Target and even Wal-Mart.  Junior high and high school age girls spend much money on clothing, and the larger retailers have realized that if they do not offer selections to that demographic they are missing out on a huge market.  Many of the overall styles at Target and Wal-Mart tend to lean more towards the juniors market, while there are actual separate clothing sections within the stores such as Dillard’s and Macys.
